These terms govern your use of lingotapas.com and the Lingotapas community, courses, live sessions, and resources (together, "Lingotapas"), operated by Lingotapas Inc. ("we", "us"). By creating an account or using Lingotapas, you agree to them. If you don't agree, please don't use the service.
Who can join
Lingotapas is for adults. You must be at least 18 to create an account. You're responsible for keeping your login details secure and for everything that happens under your account.
Membership
Taster (free). Free membership gives you access to the community, one live session a week, and selected courses and resources. It doesn't expire and there's no payment required. We may change what's included in free membership from time to time.
Full Membership (paid). Full Membership is a monthly subscription that gives you access to everything in the Lingotapas library — all courses, all live sessions and recordings, and the complete resource library — for as long as your subscription is active. The current price is shown on our pricing page.
Teams. Team and business training is provided under a separate written agreement. These terms apply to team members' use of the community unless that agreement says otherwise.
Billing and cancellation
Full Membership is billed monthly in advance, in US dollars, by card through Stripe. Your subscription renews automatically each month until you cancel.
You can cancel at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period; you keep Full access until then, and your account then returns to free membership. We don't offer refunds for partial months, except where the law requires it.
UK and EU members: you have a 14-day right to cancel a new subscription and receive a refund for any period not used, in line with consumer law.
If we change the price of Full Membership, we'll tell you by email at least 30 days before it affects you. If you don't want to pay the new price, you can cancel before it takes effect.
If a payment fails, we'll try again and let you know. If it keeps failing, we may downgrade your account to free membership until it's resolved.
Live sessions and recordings
Live sessions run on a published schedule that may change. We aim to offer the number of sessions described on our pricing page but don't guarantee any particular session, coach, or time. Sessions may be recorded and made available to members; by joining a session, you consent to being included in the recording. You may not record sessions yourself or share recordings outside Lingotapas.
Community conduct
The Lingotapas community works because people are kind to each other. By joining, you agree to:
- be respectful and patient with other learners, whatever their level
- keep your posts relevant and free of spam, advertising, or self-promotion
- not harass, threaten, or discriminate against anyone
- not share other members' personal information
- not upload anything illegal, infringing, or harmful
We may remove content or suspend or close accounts that break these rules, at our discretion. Serious or repeated breaches may result in permanent removal without refund.
Your content
You keep ownership of anything you post in the community. You give us a non-exclusive, worldwide licence to display and distribute it within Lingotapas so the service can work. If you delete a post, we'll remove it from public view, though it may remain in backups or in other members' replies for a time.
Our content
The courses, lessons, recordings, phrasebooks, exercises, and other materials on Lingotapas are owned by us or our licensors and are protected by copyright. Your membership gives you a personal, non-transferable licence to use them for your own learning. You may not copy, share, sell, or redistribute them, or use them to build a competing service. Free resources we publish for download (such as the phrasebook) may be shared in their original form, unaltered.
Disclaimers
Lingotapas is provided "as is". We work hard to keep it running and accurate, but we don't guarantee that it will be uninterrupted or error-free, or that you'll achieve any particular level of Spanish. Language in our materials may vary by region and is provided for general learning use.
To the fullest extent permitted by law, we're not liable for indirect or consequential loss arising from your use of Lingotapas, and our total liability to you is limited to the amount you've paid us in the twelve months before the claim. Nothing in these terms limits liability that can't be limited by law, including your rights as a consumer.
Ending your account
You can close your account at any time from your account settings or by contacting us. We may suspend or close accounts that breach these terms. If we close the service or a material part of it, we'll give paying members reasonable notice and a pro-rated refund for any prepaid period.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms from time to time. We'll post the new version here with a revised date and, for significant changes, tell members by email at least 30 days in advance. Continuing to use Lingotapas after that means you accept the updated terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of Ontario and the federal laws of Canada applicable there. If you're a consumer outside Canada, you may also have rights under your local law that these terms don't override.
